How are small cap fund returns on this page calculated?

All returns are for the Regular Plan, Growth Option. The 1-day return compares yesterday's NAV with the previous day's NAV and reflects the fund's most recent movement. The 1-year return is a simple point-to-point figure from one year ago to the latest NAV. The 3-year and 5-year figures are CAGR — Compounded Annual Growth Rate — which annualises the total return over the period, smoothing out year-to-year volatility.

NAV data is sourced directly from AMFI India and updated daily. Funds launched less than 3 or 5 years ago show a dash for those columns. Returns are calculated from raw historical NAV records — not sourced from any third-party aggregator.

What does fund age tell you when comparing small cap funds?

Fund age matters because small cap funds need to be tested across a full market cycle — ideally including at least one significant correction — before their true risk-adjusted performance can be assessed. A fund with less than 3 years of history may show impressive 1-year returns simply due to a favourable market phase, with no evidence of how it behaves in a drawdown.

Funds older than 7 years have typically navigated multiple market cycles and provide a more reliable basis for comparison. The age column on this page is calculated from the fund's official launch date as registered with AMFI India.

Why does AAUM matter for small cap fund selection?

AAUM — Average Assets Under Management — indicates the total size of the fund. In the small cap space, fund size has a direct impact on performance potential. Very large small cap funds can struggle to deploy capital efficiently because the small cap universe has limited liquidity. Buying or selling large positions in small cap stocks can move prices, increasing impact cost.

This does not mean smaller is always better — very small funds may lack the resources for deep research. A fund in the ₹500 Cr to ₹5,000 Cr range is often considered a manageable size for small cap investing. The AAUM shown combines both Direct and Regular plan assets for the latest available quarter.
